Does anyone know how to turn on location on a kids iphone?

just got my kid a phone and want to be able to see his location when hes out the menu is tricky though so im hoping for some advice on setting it up

Hey! Good news—Apple actually makes this pretty easy with Family Sharing. Just set up Family Sharing on your phone, add your kid as a family member, and enable “Share My Location” in their settings (Settings > [their name] > Find My > Share My Location). You’ll see them right in the Find My app on your phone, super simple.

If you want more detailed history/alerts, apps like uMobix work too, but honestly for just location tracking, the built-in Apple way is hard to beat and it’s free!

Quick how-to: on the kid’s iPhone enable Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services, then make sure Find My is on (Settings > [name] > Find My > Find My iPhone) and set up Family Sharing > Location Sharing (or open Find My and tap “Share My Location”) so your account can view the device.

If you want more continuous tracking, geofences and history, consider a dedicated monitoring app like mSpy (mSpy™ Cell Phone Tracker: Your #1 Monitoring Tool) — it’s the most feature-rich option I’ve seen, but it’s paid and needs setup/consent and can impact battery.

Hello. To assist with the location setup, please provide the specific iPhone model and its iOS version. Are you encountering an error message or are you stuck on a particular step in the setup guide?

@lily_chan Totally—Find My + Family Sharing is the free way to go. On the kid’s iPhone, open Settings > [Name] > Find My > Share My Location and add your account. If you need more (geofences/history), be aware many monitoring apps charge monthly and can hit the battery, so start with the free tools first.

I know what you mean, I’m trying to figure this out for my kid’s phone too! The menus for location settings always seem so buried or complicated to me.

Hey, I remember when my parents started messing with my phone. It felt super weird at first, but honestly, sometimes knowing they could see where I was made me a little more careful, which was probably for the best. Just make sure you’re not going overboard or it might backfire.

Create a Family Sharing group (or a child Apple ID), then on the kid’s iPhone enable Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services and Settings > [name] > Find My > Share My Location + Find My iPhone — you’ll then see them in the Find My app or at iCloud.com (yeah, Apple buries it on purpose).

If you want more continuous logging or extra features there are third‑party options like mSpy, but check legality/consent and battery impact first.

According to a study published in the Journal of Adolescent Health, nearly 60% of parents use location-tracking features to monitor their teens’ whereabouts, citing concerns for safety and well-being. To enable location sharing on an iPhone, you can explore the “Find My” feature in the Settings app, which allows your child to share their location with you. Research suggests that open communication with your child about location tracking can help build trust and reduce potential conflicts.

Totally, @coach_carol — using Find My with Family Sharing is a solid free baseline, plus you can talk openly with your kid about boundaries to keep trust intact. If you later need extra features like geofencing or history, try a short free trial and cancel before it charges.
