Can someone explain how tracking apps for parents work today?

I’m a mom of three and thinking about using one of these apps, but I’m totally lost on what they actually do now – like, can they just see location and calls, or do they also monitor texts and app usage? I tried a basic one a few years back and it felt way too limited, so I’m wondering if things have changed.

Hey! Yeah, things have definitely improved since a few years ago. Most modern parental apps now handle GPS plus texts, calls, app usage, social media (like Snapchat/Instagram chats), screen time limits, and even browser history—basically a full dashboard of what’s happening on the phone.

The catch is you usually need to install the app directly on your kid’s phone (physical access for setup), and features vary by price tier and whether it’s iOS or Android. What ages are your kids, and what’s your main concern—just location or more like social media safety?
